So I think I first tried the video recorder with another tape. I had to find a TV set with a SCART connector, and found that I had one that just by chance I did not recycle. The test tape played fine, so did the actual tape. Just some bad region with sync difficulty. I then located a service that convert tapes to digital file: perfect.
