PostScript printer drivers

I have a Samsung ML-2850 network printer that all the on-line computers 
in my house can print to.

Win10 and Win11 consider it an older printer and do not have the drivers 
built in...but they will download the entire "old printers" data base 
and eventually install it.


I often fool with old computers and at times it becomes more than just a 
hobby when someone requests a data retrieval. (My biggest challenge was 
an SCO server.)


Anyway, I was recently given a G-3 running an early version of OSX  and 
a Power Mac 7100/80 running OS-9 and just for the heck of it decided to 
see if I could setup my printer and it turned out to be no problem.

I was surprised that I simply had the choice to use the generic 
PostScript driver.


Now I've come to realize that with any PostScript capable printer, maybe 
the only thing manufacturer's drivers do is give one additional added 
features such as enunciating ink levels.


BTW: I found out that HP has purchased Samsung's printer division.
