He implies that Democratic Rep. Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd are responsible for this crisis because they have leadership positions on the finance and banking committees. This is a particularly puzzling assertion, given that Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and the White House for 6 of the last 8 years. Moreover, Republicans controlled the Congress for a similar period during the Clinton Administration. While it may be difficult to admit, Mr. Schrader needs to come to the realization that the Republicans controlled the federal government and this country's agenda for the vast majority of the last 20 years. It is their policies that have brought us to the current crisis and it's high time we recognize that they do not work. Unceasing tax and spending cuts and deregulation don't work. We need to try something new. And, if the stimulus package doesn't work as planned, then we need to keep looking for other solutions. One good definition of the word "insanity" is to repeat old behaviors while expecting a different result.
