This program will help you make a successful transition to UNLV! Attending orientation is mandatory for all first-year students. All first-year students must also complete the Online Pre-Orientation course in WebCampus before attending their scheduled orientation.

First-year students will receive their class schedules during orientation and learn valuable information about degree requirements. Guests are not permitted to attend advising and class registration sessions with their students.


Your academic advisor will enroll you in the appropriate courses based on your major and official placement information submitted to the Office of Admissions. If you do not have official placement scores or wish to improve your placement, review the UNLV Placement Assessment options. Official placement information must be submitted to the Office of Admissions prior to your scheduled orientation.


In order to assist you with your transition to UNT, all new students are required to attend an orientation session, including transfer students. During orientation, you will have the chance to meet with faculty and staff, connect with current students, learn about university resources, and receive academic advising in preparation for registering for classes. You will leave orientation understanding our university's spirit and traditions, as well as what to expect as you embark on your college experience.






To register for an orientation session, log in at my.unt.edu with your EUID and password. Once logged in, click Advising & Orientation, then Register for Orientation. Register early as sessions fill up quickly. For more details, please visit our How To Register page.


For the most up-to-date list of available orientation sessions, log on to your MyUNT student portal. Only sessions with open spaces will be available. Each orientation session has a limited capacity for general registration and for major colleges.


Parking information is included in your confirmation email sent the week leading up to your orientation date. For information about parking permits for the spring semester, please visit transportation.unt.edu.


Students who intend to register with the Office of Disability Access (ODA) under the terms of ADA/504, or who request accommodations during their orientation session, should check the appropriate boxes on their orientation registration materials. Examples where a particular display orientation may be essential are a bank check, a piano application, slides for a projector or television, or virtual reality content where content is not necessarily restricted to landscape or portrait display orientation.


The intent of this Success Criterion is to ensure that content displays in the orientation (portrait or landscape) preferred by the user. Some websites and applications automatically set and restrict the screen to a particular display orientation and expect that users will respond by rotating their device to match, but this can create problems. Some users have their devices mounted in a fixed orientation (e.g. on the arm of a power wheelchair). Therefore, websites and applications need to support both orientations by not restricting the orientation. Changes in content or functionality due to the size of display are not covered by this criterion which is focused on restrictions of orientation.


Historically, devices tended to have a fixed-orientation display, and all content was created to match that display orientation. Today, most handhelds and many other devices (e.g., monitors) have a hardware-level ability to dynamically adjust default display orientation based on sensor information. The goal of this Success Criterion is that authors should never restrict content's orientation, thus ensuring that it always match the device display orientation.


Many hand-held devices offer a mechanical switch or a system setting (or both) to allow the user to lock the device display to a specific orientation. Where a user decides to lock their entire device to an orientation, all applications are expected to pick up that setting and to display content accordingly.


This Success Criterion complements device "lock orientation" settings. A web page that does not restrict its display orientation will always support the system-level orientation setting, since the system setting is picked up by the user agent. Alternatively, where a device-level orientation lock is not in place, the user agent should display the page according to the orientation of the device (either its default, or the current orientation determined by any device sensors).


The exception for things considered essential is aimed at situations where the content would only be understood in a particular orientation, or where the technology restricts the possible orientations. If content is aimed at a specific environment which is only available in one orientation (such as a television) then the content can restrict the orientation. Technologies such as virtual reality use screens within goggles that cannot change orientation relative to the user's eyes.

As a new student, you are required to attend our in-person orientation before your classes begin.Remember to reserve your spot in advance by completing our Intent to Enroll Form.

In addition to attending orientation, you are encouraged to connect with us via Facebook. Approximately 1-2 months before the start of your first quarter, you will receive an email inviting you to join a private Facebook group for new international students at Seattle Colleges. The purpose of the group is to allow you to connect with fellow schoolmates, ask questions, and get answers as you prepare to enroll. We will send the invitation to the email address listed on your admission application -- so keep an eye out! To join our private group, follow the instructions included in the email message.

Transfer students who attend the in-person orientation will meet with their major department during the session for an academic meeting and/or academic advising. Please note that the academic meeting format varies by department.

During the orientation, you will find out which English or English as a Second Language (ESL) and possibly math course you have placed into and you will learn how those placements determine the courses you can take in your first semester. Completing the orientation provides an introduction to academic planning and is an important step in getting prepared for your first semester, selecting your courses, and getting registered.
