the best way would be to just manually remove them, limit the amount of 
shortcut rows that can be showed and pin the ones you want, for example if 
you pin "www.abc.net.au" then it will stay there always and new shortcuts 
will not push it out, and if you manually remove "www.abc.net.au/programs" 
for example it just wont show again
also turn off sponsored shortcuts

and to remove automatic shortcuts entirely you can set 
`browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.feeds.topsites` to false in 
about:config, also consider using New Tab Tools or Tabliss extension for 
more control
