Hi Paul,

Thanks for adding your experience to the PSA as it helps us all realize
that sometimes Microsoft treats our preferences as mere suggestions.

So your 'fetish' description is spot on. It's the paternalistic assumption
that the user is 'wrong' for wanting their settings to be non-default.

So, 'Daddy' didn't just reset power configuration. He moved a 5GB sofa into
my studio apartment & then acted surprised when there was no room left.

As you've experienced directly in your screen-blanker settings, apparently
we have to yank control of our preferences back from Microsoft sometimes.

What I didn't mention is my Win10 box is "unsupported" as I didn't take
advantage of the trick that others utilized to get support sans the MSA.

However I'm still getting Defender Antivirus updates, such as:
 Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus
 KB2267602 (Version 1.447.105.0) - Current Channel (Broad)
 Successfully installed on 3/31/2026

 Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus

 Successfully installed on 3/30/2026

Hence I didn't get any major in-place updates, which I'm told (by Google)
cause Microsoft to views hiberfil.sys as a dependency for Fast Startup.

Google also suggests even if we have "Sleep" off, Windows might be
re-enabling hibernation as a safety net for its internal power-state logic.

There's a suggestion that driver updates could do it but none were applied.

I looked inside the event viewer, but as you know, it's humongous. 
 Runbox > eventvwr /c:System

There's so much there that it's hard to find a cause & effect, but I did
see this "The start type of the Background Intelligent Transfer Service
service was changed from auto start to demand start" which maybe did it.
