With a help of my handy IT buddy, we confirm it is dead with adapters 
and cables even if the drive still spins. So, we're going to physically 
destroy it and buy a new one (https://www.costco.com/seagate-one-touch-5tb-portable-hard-drive-with-rescue-data-recovery-services.product.100761181.html).
