Also booted in safe mode and ran a disk check. But I am not trying to solve that error anymore, i am going to try to reinstall the OS and if that doesnt work buy a new HDD. What i do want is to get all my photos off of the machine. I have about 4,000. The HDD is actually a SSD, 240GB Kingston. I bought a IDE/SATA to USB cable, installed HFSExplorer , and am using a windows 10 machine. I was able to locate the disk and browse it but i just have one question.


First get a linux machine running, either natively or using a recovery disk (such as you get with any Ubuntu Desktop install CD).

Next install drivers for and mount a target disk, where you intend to put your HFS image. This could be an actual install HDD, a USB stick, or a remote file share (even a windows box, with an smb share would work).Next look at the list of partitions available on the box, by running cat /proc/partitionsNext plug in your HFS drive via USB, give it a sec, and run cat /proc/partitions, and play spot the difference, to see if/where the new disk appeared.
