So trick question actually because you can click and drag from anywhere, BUT the trick is dragging in the direction away from the simulator first then you can drag it wherever you like.

I made a Matlab program that simulates rope drag for climbing routes on a vertical wall and looked at some silly questions. Info about how friction is calculated and more about the program at the bottom. I realize this is all trivial, but I had fun with it.

Also maybe worth pointing out, with a lot of compounding occasions, the total drag is really sensitive to small changes in the friction calculation. So small changes in angles make a big difference over a lot of bends. Same goes for coefficient of friction. A humid day or fuzzy rope could have big have a big effect for max drag over a lot of bends. So maybe don't try to climb your 70 meter linked mega proj with a fuzzy rope and no extensions? Already a bit obvious I suppose. But maybe fuzzy ropes are holding you back. I'm adding it to the excuse catalog.

Maybe the take away is that if you already have a lot of drag on a climb, it might be worth really prioritizing a straight line for the rope because the drag is increasing very rapidly with more bends at that point.

I saw a post somewhere that claimed that zig zagging at the beginning of a rock climbing route doesn't really matter because the weight of the rope is so small that not much drag is created. Below compares zig zigging low vs high.

Not much less than 15.6 lbs for sharp corners in this case. Generally, I saw that smoothing out the corners doesn't matter much if the rope doesn't follow a much straighter total path. But f you 'smooth out' the corners so much that the rope follows a significantly more straight path overall, then there is significantly less drag. In this example you can see the rope is still pretty horizontal between bends 7 and 8 on the smooth path plot, so there was not much rope savings.

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what a good Drag racing simulator would be. I can't seem to find any. I'm talking like a full drag racing experience. Like burnout, pre-stage, stage, launch and drive the car. I drag race in real life and could use some p[practice on the tree. I have a mini practice tree, but I'd like to find a simulator that would work with my racing wheel.

Yes, I know. I want to have a propeller_drag parameter, too. But maybe Asobo will us never give such a thing. As they will never give us 3rd party weather engine interface - wishlist topic #6 Open up the weather system to 3rd party devs - Self-Service / Wishlist - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

Have a Ford GT rn, and I want to know what car is the best for drag races at the 1mil to 2mil dollar range. So many choices at a close and high price range. I just don't want to be left with a bad drag car since more than 1 million takes forever.

Experience drag racing like never before by downloading Real Drag Simulator Indonesia on PC or Mac. This game is all about drag racing on motorcycles, which sounds ridiculous but is extremely entertaining (in the game, I mean).

Real Drag Simulator Indonesia offers multiplayer gameplay, so you can invite your friends in drag-racing matches to see who is the best at wild racing. The racetracks include paved roads, dirt roads, and an open world that you can explore on a bike.

The secret to winning drag races is to change gears at the right time. Also, you can activate NOS to give your racer an extra boost. Just make sure you turn on NOS at the right time, or you might lose your edge over your opponent.

The drag coefficient of a sphere is calculated using a CFD analysis. The flow around the sphere detaches forming a rear wake which contributes to the high levels of the sphere drag coefficient, typically around 0.2 to 0.5:

The sphere drag coefficient is affected by the Reynolds number, as the Reynolds number increases the separation region behind the sphere becomes smaller reducing the overall drag coefficient. The sphere drag coefficient also shows a dip when the flow becomes fully turbulent at around Re 10.000 (see picture below):

In this tutorial the Re value will be around 30.000, but since we are going to carry out a K-Omega RANS simulation the flow will be fully turbulent so we expect the sphere drag coefficient to be slightly underpredicted.

The drag coefficient is an adimensional number which defines the air resistance for a given shape. It is defined as the drag force (Fd) divided by dynamic pressure (which is 1/2 air density multiplied for the square of the speed v) and multiplied by the reference area A of the shape:

Using the drag coefficient makes it possible to calculate the actual drag force for any given speed or air density. Also it is a useful tool to compare the performance of objects with different shapes.

In the Mesh tab in the Simulation editor window we can now define all the mesh parameters for the sphere simulation. The point in mesh defines which portion of space has to be meshed, its size is purely defined for visual purposes. We will also define 3 prism layers on the sphere surface which are very important to correctly simulate the boundary layer and correctly assess the overall sphere drag coefficient. To correctly capture the sphere wake we also need to refine the mesh behind the sphere. To do that we will add a refinement box which is a region where the mesh density is increased with respect to the base cell size.

This is an example of a steady simulation using a K-Omega RANS turbulence model. As the level of turbulence is in this case generally overpredicted the flow tends to stay attached for longer to the sphere surface generally leading to a reduced wake and therefore a lower drag coefficient with respect to experimental results.

With trackpad, scroll with 3 fingers, like you're doing it with Safari or Preview, but with 3 fingers on simulator. I you don't have trackpad, click and drag, as if the mouse pointer was your finger .

example:

switchApp("Simulator")

keyDown(Key.SHIFT + Key.ALT)

dragDrop("1494036114166.png", "1494036120150.png")

keyUp(Key.SHIFT + Key.ALT)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am trying to follow -2014.readthedocs.io/en/latest/region.html#Region.dragDrop to write a script that will scroll to the bottom of a list in the iOS simulator but I can't get it to scroll. I tried tweaking delay settings mentioned in the docs, but it didn't help.

In previous iterations of Microsoft Flight Simulator, the lift and drag bonuses for flaps were added to the lift and drag calculations that resolved automatically from the simulation. However, now these bonuses are used for surface deflection and wind tunnel normalization (the addition of the lift coefficient cannot be achieved as before since it is not physically correct at all angles of attack). This surface deflection and wind-tunnel normalization guarantees that the total lift and drag added will correspond to the indicated values at the stall angle of attack. At an angle of attack of zero, the resulting increase of lift and drag is usually about half as much and at negative angles of attack, the effect tends to wash out completely. This is a major improvement compared to previous simulations which would have very large and incorrect lift/drag coefficients at negative angles of attack.

We need to add in the Minimum Drag No Flaps value, which is used to fill in the Zero Lift field in the Aircraft Editor (under the Drag tab), or the drag_coef_zero_lift parameter in the flight_model.cfg.

This needs to be set with the aircraft in a clean, cruise configuration, with the landing gear excluded. If the landing gear can be retracted this will give you the minimum drag of the aircraft. If the landing gear cannot be retracted, you will need to subtract the gear drag coefficient (see the section Gear Drag Coefficient, below). It's also worth noting that you can make some generalisations about this value so you can check that you have it more or less correct in the spreadsheet:

The actual gear drag coefficient is incredibly difficult to find, so you will have to set an approximate value then tweak things to suit. Note that, in general, the value will always be between 0.005 and 0.01 depending on the aircraft.

The problem with this simplified formula is that it only allowed you to simulate planes that had their minimum drag when the lift coefficient was zero, and this is rarely the case. In clean configurations, many planes have their minimum drag at lift coefficients of around 0.1 and in full flap configurations, that parameter can go up to 0.4. The Microsoft Flight Simulator system is normalized to a drag polar that follows this more accurate formula:
