As I said in my last paragraph above, I couldn't backup.

I tried Validate. It repaired several folders and removed several
invalid transactions. I then retried backup, OSU, and add file. All
failed in the same way as before.

I then tried Super Validate.  I then retried backup, OSU, and add
file. All failed in the same way as before.

What next? Am I completely out of luck? Is there anything else I can
do or at least try?
