Virtual machine running Windows 9x or XP.  You can use VMWare Player or
Virtualbox.  Both are free.

However, if what you install for the OS inside a VM was from what you
upgraded, you cannot use that license.  Upgrades, say from Windows XP to
7, fetter the license.  The old license becomes invalid once used to
upgrade to the next license.  You need an OS inside the VM that wasn't
used as a base to upgrade to a later OS to ensure the old license is not
fettered.
