Having spent 22 years in England - 11 of them in Cambridge, UK, and 19 
years in the Netherlands, all of them in Nijmegen, I've got a very clear 
idea of what provincial looks like, and I'm equally well aware that I'm 
not "provincial" since I do know what is going on in the wider world.

My father was in one sense provincial since he spent the critical part 
of his professional life in Burnie, Tasmania (population 15,000 at the 
time).
