Well, MacOS kept syslogd separate.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the idea for systemd
came from MacOS's launchd.

BTW: Whenever someone posts their reminiscences of all the trouble
they had with printing on Linux, I point out that nowadays,
Linux printing is as easy as on MacOS -- thanks to CUPS.

(Our household is dual-Unix -- Linux on my desktop, MacOS
on Mrs. vallor's Mac Studio.  Same goes for our phones. ;)  )
