FYI - "DietPi" - Problems

Was re-doing my Pi-Zero2w. Found good
cheap PLASTIC cases that wouldn't block
the WiFi. For under $9 found a 'kit'
with a snap-together case AND a number
of Zero-relevant plug adapters. Bought
two of those.

Anyway, re-doing, decided to give DietPi
a try again. Hadn't messed with it for
several years. Used the Trixie derivation.

Alas ... while it'd boot to the CL, a big
nasty message box immediately pops up
screaming that an ext3/4 partition is
there with NO journaling system included.

It points to a utility - SOUNDS like how
RPi-OS resizes the card - but it reported
that everything was a-OK.

NOT encouraging. NO real clue why it
thought the partition was 'corrupt'.

So, eventually just used PiOS ... fatter,
but it does what it's supposed to do.

OK, will NOT detect wifi networks during
installation. You have to skip that, then
use the GUI util to connect and then update.

Also ... tried to set up VNC ... but I'd
get some weird grey screen. Not the USUAL
grey screen, you could left-click and get
a little menu, but nothing would work. DID
track that down ... latest PiOS defaults
to WAYLAND. Had to use raspi-config to
switch back to X11.

The Pi-0-2 is still not a 'snappy' board.
The Zero-1 must have been really bad. Still,
looking into these things for a number of
"IOT" type devices. The 0-2 is slow but
STILL "fast enough" for that kind of thing
and pretty CHEAP and SMALL. They have
a place.

Oh, some years back, I found that an Ard UNO,
a very low-end microcontroller with VERY
limited mem, had a lib that'd implement
a TCP stack. Just plug in a 'network shield'.
Put it together and WAS able to implement
a very very basic web page (on one of our
alt addresses we bought to thwart fake
people). An ASCII-Art pic, a few menu
options and text, even a 2nd little page
with useful info. The main idea was to
give people a link to our REAL address.
This remained on our net for like 3 years.
years and DID work fine. AMAZING what CAN
be done with hyper-minimal hardware !
Don't ask TOO much, but ...

The Zero-2 is much more powerful.

As for DietPI ... I used an early version
with fair success shortly after it came
out ... a low-end Original Pi. Made the most
of what there was. However my NEW experience
makes me wonder. They DO, allegedly, have
versions that'll run on MANY "Pi-Like"
boards. But, do we get the SAME error ???
