My Pi 5 uses Broadcom for both WiFi and BT. They work. However I'm using 
the Trixie based Raspberry Pi OS so it damn well better have drivers for 
the Pi hardware. I've never experimented with other distros on the Pi. 
Some may quibble 'but, but, that's proprietary. Can't have that, can we?'
