In a purported major milestone for quantum computing, the experiments show how these machines could perform useful computational tasks, such as computing chemical reactions, within minutes. By comparison, a supercomputer would take years. In a statement, IBM representatives said these experiments show that quantum computers can provide trusted solutions more efficiently, more cheaply or more accurately than any classical computing method. . . . Some think IBM is Last-World ... but it's really a very diverse company. They hire many of The Best to work on stuff - then license the tech for $$$. Much existing tech, under other names, has IBM under the proverbial hood (ok, 'bonnet' if you're Brit). "Quantum" computing has always been a PAIN. Controlling ERRORS has been a constant battle. In THEORY it's the superior way - but real world issues keep holding it back. The pic shows a 5-box cluster - but not sure if that's the real unit. An interesting question for those with more IQ than mine, are the 'errors' potentially useful/informative ? Quantum is always, inherently, a bit "iffy" ... but what do those "if's" maybe tell us ??? We WANT QM to produce 'solid' results, in keeping with conventional computing tech, however maybe the REAL power/knowledge is in the "if's" ??? Just wondering.
