The problem is that this has nothing to do with either Linux or shell scripting, but has to do with the vagaries of one particular DE. Anyway, OP has a solution, which was just to put the script itself in ~/Desktop, where it is thus easily clickable. So, case closed. -- The randomly chosen signature file that would have appeared here is more than 4-ish lines long. As such, it violates one or more Usenet RFCs.
