IMHO there needs to be some AGREEMENT on how such things SHOULD work - and the KISS principle should be paramount. XFCE ... there are ".desktop" files, sometimes hard to edit, that include a HUGE amount of "internationalization" bullshit. Sometimes I just copy an existing one and then brutally change a bunch of the internal stuff. Some of the older, simpler, desktops ... they are mostly just links. Plain, easy, rules so they Just Work. Frankly, by trying to make desktop executables "better", most have made them much WORSE. Evil M$ operatives ???
