strange monitor problem.

hello list, I am having a rather strange problem here, this is, that my monitor for some reason started showing a message that said something like out of time, or possibly out of timing. thinking it was the monitor that was faulty, I replaced it, and now this new one is saying out of range. to cap it all, when connected to another computer, both monitors do what they should, so I don't know what is causing this problem now. please has anyone got any ideas as to what is causing this problem, and if possible how I can fix it? thanks.
