Microphone Jack Mystery

I want to use a microphone with my computer, but don't know where the appropriate space is for it. I'm thinking I need to communicate with Dell, the manufacturer, and say what sort of computer I have so they can give me this info. Where do I find whatever number or code I need to give in order to let them know I'm entitled to this kind of information/support, and to inform them which computer I'm using?
