  I can't help you with your error problem, but perhaps, while you're 
looking
through the K1000 trouble-shooting files, you'll notice something relevant 
to what I find to be
an annoying aspect of K1000:

  I disconnect the mains power for my scanner when I'm not going to use it 
for a long while, as I don't want to waste energy nor wear out
the scanner unnecessarily.  However, sometimes when I reconnect it to the 
mains, and ask K1000 to scan, K1000 goes completely unresponsive, and the 
only way to
restore it to life is to reboot the computer.  There ought to be an easier 
way, but there seems to be no button that can otherwise restore K1000 to 
life, not even ctrl+Alt+Delete.

  Incidentally, I have a friend, John Roberts, in Chandler's Ford, 
Eastleigh, which is near Southhampton.  So you perhaps have met him.
