.PDF to .doc?

Hi,
I have a one year Bible program. Each day has the text in a PDF file. As I
read it with JAWS 8.0, I find lines of text appearing without spaces between
the words.
I thought I could put each day's reading into a Word document and edit it as
I go.
What is the difference between a space and a blank? I selected a blank and
then went to search and replace. The process removed every space between the
words. Is there a way to differentiate between wanted spaces and unwanted
blanks?
What is an endash, anyway?
