Re: what in the world does this mean? help!!!!!!

Harry, Is there anything that you removed or installed to the computer 
prior to the problem starting? You can check the utilities disk and see 
if the 'direct sound output device it mentions is there and try running 
it again. What were you using for sound before? I mean, was it in board 
sound or a sound card like Sound Blaster. If it is a sound card then run 
that software again instead of the one on the utility disk.

You can go to settings - control panel - sound and audio. Check things 
out in there and run the ;trouble shooter' option.
