File Managers

I'm distressed over the Herculean measures people employ in using or extracting information from the standard file managers available in Windows, Windows Explorer or My Computer. I don't usually recommend that folks stray from standard software if it's reasonably accessible, but in this instance, I recommend the file manager FileDir  written by 
Jamal Mazrui. 
It was written specifically for us with accessibility in mind. I'm hesitant  to paste the documentation in a post, whether that would violate list rules. If, however, you download it and read through the documentation, accessed by pressing F1 while in FileDir, I think you'll find that it will meet all your file management needs.

One word of caution, you'll need to first install Microsoft's NET Framework 2.0, Here's a place where you can download it:

Jamal regularly adds additional functionality to the product, and the latest update is easily available in FileDir by pressing F11 and following the prompts. All of the product's functions are accessed through the keyboard. The layout is simple and clean. If for instance you want to know the size of the current folder and how many files are in the folder, press Control plus Y.
