interested in this position.

 

Position: technological services specialist 

 

Job Responsibility:

 

*         Work with outside agencies, businesses and institutions to

evaluate their work environments with respect to accessibility for visually
impaired employees.

 

*         Create documents for visually impaired staff in formats that

are accessible by: Screen Reading software and/or Braille Embossing
software.

 

*         Suggest appropriate technology solutions to outside agencies

that would make their software applications more compatible with assistive
technology. 

 

*         Troubleshoot technical problems that visually impaired staff

may experience when attempting to perform their day-to-day professional
responsibilities.

 

*         Serve as a resource to staff and public alike, in responding

to phone and email queries about assistive technology concerns. 

 

*         Advise agency of the latest technology developments and

discuss the impact of such on the assistive technology field.

 

*         Recommend necessary technological modifications to agency's

computer systems, to ensure continued equipment compatibility between
specialized assistive technology applications and standard platforms. 

 

*         Provide equipment demonstrations both in-house and on-site,

illustrating the special features of the various assistive technology
equipment. 

 

*         Conduct periodic in-service training sessions to agency staff,

in an effort to enhance their assistive technology knowledge.

 

*         Perform technology assessments for agency's consumers who are

seeking equipment adaptations to assist them in their work and/or education
environment. 

 

*         Make recommendations suitable for each consumer's unique

situation, such that it would enable the consumer to efficiently address
his/her professional or academic responsibilities.

 

*         Maintain up-to-date technology resource lab and ensure that

all equipment functions optimally; when necessary resolve technical
problems.

 

*         Install, setup, and configure recommended equipment for

consumers on-site. Instruct consumers on proper use of their equipment.

 

*         Utilize personal notes and summaries to create detailed

assistive technology manuals, which serve as a resource for agency staff,
consumers, and public. Update and edit manual as new technology developments
are announced.

 

EDUCATION:

 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's
degree.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) years of experience in the field of services to blind and/or
visually impaired with a minimum of two (2) years experience in utilization
and development of technical equipment for blind and visually impaired
persons or other handicapped persons.

 

NOTE: A Master's degree in psychology, rehabilitation counseling,

rehabilitation engineering, or related fields may be substituted for one (1)
year of the above experience.
