Lisa,

I'm using IE7, JAWS 9, and Norton but neither my mouse nor my monitor, and I've been encountering the very same problems with
Norton as you. I've tried to communicate to Norton the need for it to be accessible to the blind, but it hasn't been at all easy to send Norton such a message, and there's been no
indication of improvement in its accessibility. I must, however, give Norton credit for having extended the renewal period that I recently paid for automatically, as I was able to
communicate to Norton that the automatic renewal had come a couple of months too early.

Before the recent upgrade of my Noerton I'd been able to carry out a scan of just drive C:, which took only a couple of hours for 375,000 files. But now, when I'm occasionally able to
carry out a "full scan," it takes six hours for 1.5 million files--because it inisists on scanning drives C:, D:, a d K:, K: being my external back-up drive. Sometimes
Norton offers the much nicer possibility of a "fast scan," which takes only a couple of minutes for checking the files most likely to have become
infected. But it's very hard to manage Norton. I guess it's doing a lot of management of itself, downloading updates
automatically without even warning me, and then popping up messages at inconvenient times suggesting that I download updates and reboot to have them take effect.

Perhaps you can get Norton to accept David Poehlman suggestion: to visit

Subject: [VICUG-L] need help with norton internet security!

      Hi all,

I wasn't able to resolve my last problem that I presented on this list =

about the information bar and so forth, but hopefully my luck can change =

  with this question. =20

I have always had norton internet security as my antivirus program. It =

has never been very user friendly for me, but I have squeaked by because =

I didn't know anything better to do. I just renewed my subscription so =

I guess I have the latest version of norton. Anyway, this version seems =

to be the least user friendly of all the versions I have had. I have =

window eyes 6.1. I have windows xp home and internet explorer 7. I =

have always had trouble with clicking on things on the screen and have =

it do anything, but this is the worst. When I open norton now it =

doesn't give me the usual screen with options of running full system =

scan and so forth. The only way I have ever been able to read the =

norton screen is with the mouse and now it is only reading parts of =

sentences. It is bringing up a screen now that says something needs =

attention and something about a full system scan has not been completed =

and that I should run one. I don't know what needs attention because it =

isn't reading everything and it doesn't give anything to click on to do =

  the full system scan. =20

I don't know what to do to fix this problem. I don't know if I should =

scrap this if it is impossible to deal with and find some other program =

to replace it that is more friendly or what or try to fix this problem =

  with help. =20

If anyone has any ideas at all on this problem and what I should do I =

would really appreciate it. I need a program that I can navigate and =

right now this isn't it. Another thing is that whenever it tells you =

there are threats that it found in the past because of the fact that it =

doesn't read the screen very well I can never find the option to remove =

threats or anything. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank =

  you so much.

  Lisa
