Hello Mr. Mazrui,

 

My name is John Good and I am blind and I am an   old mainframe

programmer at the City of Pittsburgh.  I am being asked by my management
to begin to work on .NET applications that are being developed here at
the City of Pittsburgh.  I have been assigned to a .NET project called
ISAT which is a system for self assessed taxes that I developed on the
main frame in the 1980's and have been since ported to a server.  It is
now being rewritten under .NET software.  

 

     I have been to the Grab Bag site.  I am nervous about all this new
software.  I have been reading some manuals I've down loaded off the new
programming site and am reading 2 manuals for .NET, a kick Start of .NET
programming and COBOL and VB.NET for mainframe programmers.  It is very
daunting.  I am several years from retirement and do not wish to be
unemployed so I am making a real effort to make this work.  If
accessibility issues are a concern with Visual Studio, it may be
impossible for me to be successful.  I do not expect to have much
assistance here at work in making this work.  I wish to minimize any
accessibility issues that might be minimized.  That is why I am writing
to you.  I have seen your name periodically in some blind lists I belong
to and believe you to be very knowledgeable.  In addition, your name was
prominently mentioned in the Grab Bag site.  I went to the Empowerment
zone web site and read your biography and resume.  It is very

impressive.   

 

     I have received a list of software that I will need to install on
my PC in order to work on the project.  I have pasted a copy below.  AS
I stated, I have been to the Grab Bag site and see many down loads that
seem promising, however I do not wish to make a mistake in what I need
to down load to make this all work.  To give you a little more info, I
have a 1 Gig IBM compatible PC running Windows XP Pro, Service pack 2. I
am also running JFW 9.0.552U.  I also, have JFW versions 7 and 8 loaded
on my machine if an older version is needed to work with Visual Studio
2005.  My question to you, can you advise me on whether or not this will
be workable for me from an accessibility aspect and if so can you advise
me on which down loads from the Grab Bag site and or other

sites I need to make this all accessible?   Which version of JFW should

I be using with Visual Studio?  Which editor at the Grab Bag site is
best suited for Visual Studio? Is a more current version of Visual
Studio than 2005 more accessible and if so, are there scripts for later
versions? If you are too busy or do not wish to help for one reason or
another, can you help by providing a name and e-mail address or phone
number to someone who might be helpful?
