Defaults in LKB

I was wondering which version of the LKB was the first to allow the use of
defaults?

Also, is there a monotonic (i.e. non-default) version of the so-called
Textbook Grammar? The version I've got (dating from 1999) does have
defaults. Is there maybe an older development version which is monotonic?
