Rich, just to clarify your assertions: PowerLoom should be able to load and reason with OpenCyc (given appropriate translation), but we haven't had an opportunity to play with that yet. Past connections to Cyc were done differently, where Cyc knowledge from a full Cyc version was translated and paged in on demand. We also haven't worked directly with WordNet, however, ISI's Omega ontology which is partly based on WordNet is (or at least was at some point) supported by a specialized PowerLoom backend that leverages a relational DB (see http://omega.isi.edu/). I haven't really looked at the OpenCyc release in detail, but with respect to reasoning, both engines should give you fairly similar capabilities. PowerLoom might be somewhat more light-weight and maybe more easily integratable as part of a larger application.
