Hello,

I am running it on Windows 7 in the terminal. On giving the query ?-current_prolog_flag(encoding, E). it returns the value of E as text.

Which environment and SO are you using ?

I query because I could be involved if you run swipl-win, that despite its name actually runs on several platforms...

Whenever the trace is on, there are weird characters displayed:
