Well, Apple and X11 isn't really a good mix. Works for me though.
Running XQuartz 2.7.5 (which is the critical component). Note that
opening the first window took about 10 minutes (!). After that it is
normally fast (also after stopping and restarting Prolog). This seems to
be related to Apple's X11 font handling.  So, maybe you should just grab
a cup of coffee and see whether it still hangs.

If all fails, use MacPorts to install from source.  That seems to work
for most people.  New releases are typically on Macports in a day or less.
