Hi,

After loosing about half of our 600 members in the past couple of weeks
due to bounced messages, I've decided to move the SWI-Prolog mail list
from [email protected] to a Google group (two people
reacted on this suggestion, both possitively). First, I'd like to think
Guenter Kniesel and Bonn university for the hospitality they have given
to us over the past years. Thanks Guenter!

I'm not sure this is the perfect solution. Quite a few open source
projects seems to be using it satisfactory though but one can easily
find complaints that public google groups are unmanageable due to heavy
spamming. Most of these are old, so I hope they improved. A Google group
surely comes with a few advantages, such as a decent online forum,
tagging facility, etc.

We can have multiple managers. I have no experience managing a public
Google group. Please send me a message if you want to (help) manage the
group (I assume you need a Google account for that).

The address of the google group forum is

    http://groups.google.com/group/swi-prolog

Mail may be sent to

   [email protected]

Subscription can be done through the above website. I think that only
works if you have a google account. If you do not have a google account,
you can subscribe by sending a mail to

	[email protected]

As far as I know, subject and content are irrelevant.

I'll update the website accordingly. I'll also test the option to embed
the forum in the SWI-Prolog site. Does anyone know whether/how we can
include searching the forum in the website search?

Please start using the new group. I'll discuss with Guenter when/how
we close the current service. I'll try to extract the remaining
subscriptions
from the mailman server and send an invitation for the new group to these.

	Cheers --- Jan
