I'd just their maven artifacts directly (via Maven Central) and not
bother with compiling them yourself.

There are other Java frameworks out there, e.g:
DJL - An Engine-Agnostic Deep Learning Framework in Java
https://github.com/deepjavalibrary/djl
(developed by Amazon)

NB: I haven't used that one.
