I am the french translator :-)

About english version:

--- I think a backslash is missing in "simple example" after "pid" and
"client".
--- "format string" refers to ErrorLogFormat directive argument, and it
actually is a string ; I don’t see any confusion
--- Effectively, "the log line" should be replaced by "the format string" in
fourth sentence.
--- I suggest to rewrite the fourth sentence as follows : "This means the
format string is implicitly divided into fields without whitespace and
separated by whitespaces."
--- There are several examples at the end of directive description
