I believe the updated title more accurately reflects what this ticket is about
- that what is matched varies by context. While I do think the prose explains
this, there's always room for clarification.

However, the attached patch addresses a bunch of other things, and will need to
be considered very carefully. I don't believe we can apply it as is, but I'll
figure out what we can and cannot apply. (Likely after next week, as I'll be
traveling.)
