In fact, I have commented out almost of the DSOs in my test apache instance and it still dumps core either on startup (when the Layout* directives are at the vhost level) or on page access (when the Layout* directives are in a <Directory> container). I'm using Apache 1.3.28 with mod_layout 3.2.1 under Solaris 9.
