apache2.X + mod_layout4.0.1a no header/footer added to php file

Hi all,
i'm using mod_layout by sveral months now, and i am very happy. Just now i'm 
working on a server with RHE and apache2.X, and i need mod_layout working. I 
have used an rpm for mdk to install mod_layout, cause was impossible install 
it from sources. Now the modules work, but the header and footer does not 
appear on php page, only on html and htm page.
These are the directives that i'm using:

AddOutputFilter LAYOUT html
LayoutFooter /home/footer.html
LayoutHeader /home/header.html

but as i said i can see the header and footer only on htm and html page. 
There is something that i can do to have the module working also on php 
file? hope yes or i'll be forced to downgrade apache and a lot of 
packages...
