apache segmentation fault

Hi all,
I just downloaded mod_layout and installedwith apache 1.3.27/ php 4.3.0 on
redhat 7.1.
I have the folowing in an include file for a vhost.

layout "</body>" /layout/footer.php replace
layoutfooter "<!-- page automatically parsed by web server -->"

However, when i try to visit the page, i get an apache segmentation fault in
error_log and the page as before installing the mod_layout comes up.

What might be wrong ?
