LayoutMerge Directive Help

I just got mod_layout installed on my cpanel VPS server, and everything is working just fine.

What I am needing help with is the directives. I have googled, and gotten some details and reviewed the FAQ. However I am a little
unsure of things.

I plan to have a free hosting service. And I want to display a toolbar (a la webhostingtalk.com) on every page, including sub-pages.
What is the best way to go about this. I was thinking of the layoutmerge feature, but really got confused on how to set up the
directives so that the toolbar.html page in the /usr/local/apache/htdocs is the one that is being displayed at the top of each page.


So any help on setting the directives up would be appreciated, and sample of the codes I need to use would be nice.
