Unfortunately it doesn't know anything about tag replacement except  
that is should replace... Doing the first tag would be easy, and it  
would be possible to do the last tag as well. I don't have time to  
work on this at the moment but would accept a patch for it (and from  
other comments in the mailing list, I don't think you are the only  
person hitting this issue).
