Well, for starters, I'm forced to use Apache 2.0.x (The RHEL 4 version) on the front end. Also, I'm not comfortable playing around with an experimental module when I've been running mod_layout in Apache 1.3 for years without one single problem. I may indeed play around with mod_sed in development, it looks interesting. However, it's certainly not a drop in replacement for mod layout. Also, one thing I didn't see is how to protect proxied pages (not saying the capability doesn't exist, but the examples I found used the <directory> container). In essence, I'm not saying my method is the best way to do it. My method is just one option of many. That's the beauty of open source, you can pick and choose what you use to fulfill your requirements.
