I experience similar segfaults on linux, runnin 2.4.22 kernel with non
executable stack. On other kernel versions it seems to run fine.

Yes please =)

I tried with Mr. Duncan's patch, it removed the segfault, but it introduced
another bug. It seems to run select() on the fd representing the logfile to
be written, not the socket.
