mls issue on freebsd 4.9

Trying to get spreadlogd to compile on FreeBSD 4.9 release, using mpearson
patches, and I get the following:

pat# make
bison -y -d config_gram.y
config_gram.y:36.10: parse error, unexpected ":", expecting ";" or "|"
config_gram.y:46.13: parse error, unexpected ":", expecting ";" or "|"
*** Error code 1

Stop in /usr/local/software/spreadlogd-1.4.2.

I SEEM to recall this came up before, and people told me it was due to using
bison 1.75, and an older version would correct this (1.35). A), is that
true, and B) is there a fix that will let it compile right with bison 1.75?
