It has come to my attention that we have two different versions of the
FAQ online.
This might have caused some confusion regarding recent threads on this
list.

Here is the official FAQ:

The first link (above) is the version that mentions the default handler
stuff, and is linked from media.tangent.org.
The later link is an old version of the same doc, and amazes me that
people still find it. Must be a stale link to it some place on the
internet?


Sorry for the confusion! This will probably get fixed once Brian comes
back, and has time to dink around with it.

Thanks for the clarification.  Actually, I'm sending playlists to Winamp
2.81, which then plays the individual MP3 URL's.  The strange behaviour
I'm seeing, though, is this:

If I put a URL of the form "?op=play&song=<md5hash>", then I get a
stream which shows the proper artist and song title in the Winamp
window.  The Winamp "File Info" window gives output like the following:

Server: mod_mp3
Metadata received: 1040 bytes
Metadata interval: 8192 bytes
Stream name: Mere Device
Current title: BO: Kain Awakens - Legacy of Kain

If I simply reference the URL for an MP3 file, then Winamp displays only
the filename, and the "File Info" window looks like the following: ~

mod_mp3/0.39 mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6g PHP/4.2.3

This happens regardless of whether I have a "Add-Handler mp3-file *.mp3"
statement present in apache.conf, either in the main file, or in the
virtual server config which I use for mod_mp3.  In all of these cases,
the file plays just fine.

What I'd really like (and the main reason I'm using mod_mp3) is to get
the full stream format with title and artist info, as shown in the first
example, but only have to reference the URL of an MP3 file, rather than
using ?op=play .  My question is, should the mp3-file handler be
providing that for me?
