Hello, all. New subscriber here, discovered the list by Googling for
related topics.

I'm working on a Linux (Red Hat 8) box that will, by the time I'm through,
have the music from all of my compact discs. Other computers in the house
will be able to play music from that server (which is where mod_mp3 for
Apache comes in). Also, I've got a soundcard in the server, so other
computers in the house can tell the server what music to play on its own
soundcard.

(So far this is standard stuff, see also Empeg car stereos for similar
capabilites.) I also want to do is to have a database of all of the info
about the music, for ease of automatic playlist generation. I believe
Brian Aker and Scott Kveton were discussing something like this here a
while back.

Well, that's the basic outline of my plans. I'm here to learn what's
already been built of a similar nature, so that I don't have to reinvent
the wheel, and so I can contribute my work to the common good.
