I've been able to reproduce it. That error string changed in apr-1.5.2 and I've been testing with apr-1.5.1 earlier. I've verified that the patch you've attached fixes the issue for me. I've tested with the patch with both apr-1.5.2 and apr-1.5.1 and it worked in both cases for me, so +1 from my point of view.
