Apache 2 Protocol Handlers?

Hi, 

Are there any plans to add support for the Apache 2 protocol handling
phases to mod_ruby a la mod_perl 2.0? I've poked around a bit on
perl.httpd.org ( the page describing what I'd like to be able to do in
ruby is http://perl.apache.org/docs/2.0/user/handlers/protocols.html
), and it looks like to do this you have to wrap parts of libapr.  So
are they any plans to do this, or other people interested in it?
