In the immediate future

Seems no-one is complaining about the stable mod_survey release. This can 
be interpreted in one of two possible ways: 1) it works perfectly so 
there's nothing to complain about, or 2) it sucks but no-one has tested 
it yet.

I prefer the first interpretation. Usually I have found that no news is 
good news: If you don't hear anything then all is well. :-)

Anyway, since no disaster management seems to be necessary it feels like 
it is time to start thinking about the future again.

During the autumn (presumably starting october) I will be conducting a 
largeish survey: 3000 respondents, seven pages, around 60 questions. It 
will be conducted using the 3.2.0 stable code. As it will be conducted 
amongst the staff on my university it will be possible to get feedback 
about layout and similar, which will be interesting since the machinery 
ranges from macintosh (the journalist program) via pc/linux (me and people 
around here) to windows 98 with netscape 4 (the maths professors).

Apart from that I plan spending my mod_survey time divided across 
completing the documentation, polishing Cough and adding new interesting 
features.

However, there are two things I'd like to involve more people in before 
starting.

* The layout engine. As per previous discussions it is not entirely 
self-evident which way DIV tags and similar should be set up. Todd sent a 
suggestion which I have still to digest.

* The data/db awareness. For example we could want to fetch the contents 
of a LIST from a db table. Exactly how this data awareness should look is 
not entirely clear.

I'm planning to call IRC chat sessions concerning these topics. The first 
concerning layout and CSS probably some time next week. I hope to have 
written some background documents before that though, so I'll be back. We 
had a lot of fun IRC:ing about the syntax for the conditional branching, 
so I'm hoping to get a reasonable crowd for the above two chats.
