No, first, that link is for buster, this  machine is stretch yet but I 
have put that line an my .bashrc, in roots .bashrc, and in 
amanda's .bashrc and . sourced them all without any detectable effect.

I just did incorporate the kmail background task killer so maybe that 
source of an occasional error is squashed.  Kmail; was doing expiry 
things during the amanda run and that was giving the lady a tummy ache.
