Hi,

Albeit in a broader context: LVM works very well.

Although in your case there is a significant drawback: if one SSD were 
to fail, the volume group would break.

Maybe it's safer to spread the virtual tapes across both SSDs (having 
individual file systems), for example using symbolic links.
